Any free and reasonably good wave editor out there?
Posted by Kervin on June 28th, 2003

I am currently using Nero Wave Editor that came with my Nero burning
software. It's not bad, but I have one problem with it. When I edit mp3 and
save, my mp3 become 80kbps from 128kbps or whatever the original bitrate
was. I have looked at all the options and doesn't look like anything can be
done to adjust that. So I am currently looking for freeware editors out
there that can edit mp3 and not reduce the quality in the process. Any
suggestions?

your mp3 will always degrade in quality after saving it again
from your editor. when loading the mp3 it is decoded into a kind
of wav-format, then you can edit and when done everything is
encoded again.

it's weird though you can't the editor convince to re-encode your
file into the same bitrate as it came.

I took a look and it only supports up to 96kbps. Maybe coz this is a bundled
software. But thanks anyway!! Haven't looked there before.

Actually, when I deselect the Enable mp3PRO, all the bitrate became
available including VBR. So I didn't have to download any plugin after all.
