I've been using it for over 2 yrs and remain extremely happy.

However, it works best if you have a longish commute to work. This lets
you convert that dead traveling time to being useful.

Since you mentioned Audible.com, I've got a question.
What's the best ( easiest ) way to convert the Audible .aa files into mp3
files and break them into smaller, say 10 minute long, files. Some of these
books take 20 or more cds. 2 or 3 cds would be a lot more managable. Small
10 min files would make it easier to resume where you left off if you eject
the cd.
TIA
Paul

w/ the Otis, and they give it away free (for a 1 yr commitment). I am
very happy with the service so I have no objections to commitments.
OTOH, cell phones are another matter <grin>.

But I can come up w/ a kludge. But I wonder if it's worth the time that
would be needed to do it. One can make a CD and then rip the CD just
made. There are many utilities that can make an mp3 out of a .wav file.
You can use a utility that can edit an mp3, or you can chop the .wav
file and make mp3's of the .wav fragments. Personally, I use DC5 which
processes .wav files. I have seen mp3 editors advertised but I have
never used them myself.

Why don't you use the Otis?

I don't think it's possible to convert...not sure why you'd want to
since you can download the files for CD smaller.

You ought to just get an ipod. :-)

Don't want an ipod or an Otis. I want to play the cds in my indash cd/mp3
player. I could easily burn the books as regular cds, but some of the books
would be 25 - 30 cds long ( ~40 hours listening time ), too unmanageable.
The same length of audio would fit onto 2 or 3 cds in mp3 format.

Paul,
I use Goldwave to convert my *.AA files to MP3's
http://www.goldwave.com/ the new version is $42.00 but I do think it
is worth it, I believe you can download a trial version and check it
out. I hated not being able to listen to my books on my cars MP3 cd
player and didn't want to burn 10 cd's just to listen to one book in
the car so Goldwave was a good investment for me. Hope that helps a
bit.
