consant bit rate vs variab bit rate

Just wondered what is better for backing up Audio Books to MP3 format.

Constant Bit Rate or Variable Bit Rate.

Any oppinions of getting the best out of Mp3 Format.
Normally use 64kb CBR mp3 format but wondering of VBR is better?

For an audio book I would use the lowest bitrate mono files my player
would support, probably 32kbps.

You won't be likely to hear a difference with spoken word and will
certainly get the smallest files.

Also, if you're using a portable player to listen to these books in your
car, the player may not even support VBR.
