Does anyone know if I have to use "their" software to make this work? I
would rather use my windows explorer to move files back and forth...

Forget using the music match software.
Install the dj drivers and dj explorer. DJ explorer will transfer files but
won't rip or encode.
If you want more features buy dudebox for $25.
