Does anyone supply iPODs (mini or 20Gb) in the UK?

See subject above.

Also, can I drag-and-drop files using the 'Pod like I can with some portable
devices under XP?

Plus every other UK based tech/comp/music website & high street chain.
Really not hard to find now unless you live in the sticks and don't have
teh interweb.

Not strictly true. You can't drag-and-drop tunes and play them in the
iPod, but you can drag-and-drop any type of file and move it to another
PC - using the iPod as a removable hard disk.

Bollocks.

Do you need to install software or does the iPod appear as a removable drive
without needing a driver?

Yes the iPod can appear as a removable drive, BUT the iPod's internal
music database will NOT register any MP3s copied in this waw. This must be
done via iTunes, MusicMatch, Anapod, etc.

Michael - Can I clarify this? It's important since it might swing me to an
iPod.

Are you saying that I can transfer files from home to office using an iPod
*without* loading any software? My company prevents software installation
(but USVB flash drives work) so it must be driverless.

Cheers.

OK maybe not the mini, but I've seen the 4th gen 20 gig all over the
place (London area). Anyway apple.com/uk is as good a place as any to
get one.

No, you just plug it in and XP does the usual - "new USB device detected
.... your device is installed" and it appears as a drive. No need to have
iTunes or any drivers. I've used it to move mp3 collections and DVD rips
from PC to laptop with no trouble.

If you are planning to buy one to use at work, be aware that companies
might start putting in policies to lock down USB access as there have
been scare stories about the potential uses of iPods and USB flash
drives for industrial espionage!

Amazon also has the new 4th Gen Ipods, but no Minis (surprise )
Pc World branches have some 20gb and 40gb ipods but no idea if they are the
4th gen as when I asked they didn't know there was a new version (suprise
again )
Having said that, all the dsg retail webstores (Dixons, Currys, PC World) DO
list the Ipod mini as in stock!!!!
