- Does this exist? Software to find new/all albums of favorite bands.
- Posted by Bob Business on October 30th, 2003
This is what I thought about, does this exist? A program that you put
in the bands you listen to, and it could use CDDB, etc. to determine
all of the albums the band has. You could mark which ones you have,
and it could alert you if a new one came out. I would like this alot
since I have no idea when the bands I listen to come out with a new
album. It would be even cooler if it could suggest other bands
similar to my tastes that I might like.
Thanks,
BB

This site does two out of three: http://www.allmusic.com/ It won't alert
you when a new album is released but it does show the discography of
artists, and provides a suggested list of similar artists.

Ian.

Well now
Ian-old-buddy-old-friend-old-compatriot-old-beer-drinkin'-relative-of-mine.
...
far be it from me to disagree with you, so I won't, but I will say that AMG
does indeed have a "new release" feature to click on...
(as our dear friend the Frisky Critter alerted me to not long ago).
- although it won't notify you by e-mail of course.
Suffice to say that AMG lives on my desktop, I refer to it so many times
the thought of "pay-per-use" makes me break out in a cold sweat, and were
it gone tomorrow I would "get postal on somebody's ass" - trust me.

Ian and Loco are both right, AMG is da bomb and it does have a "new
release" feature that shows you everything coming out in the near future
sorted by genre and date.
However, amazon.com does have a service where they will email you when
future releases of bands you like are actually available. If you do a
search for the band you are after and then look to the lower left part of
the page there is a box to "sign up" for the service. I've done this for
a couple of bands and it has worked fine.

Allmusic would be perfect if it had a feature like IMDB.com where you
can keep a list of your favorite artists.

Use your browser to do it. Just make a folder in your favorites
(or bookmarks) folder (or even on the Links bar) and call it <AMG Faves>
or something. Then put shortcuts to the pages of your favorite artists
in it, piece of cake.

LOL! Don't mind me, Don - I'm still dealing with a certain amount of
outrage over Sony.com pulling the plug on my beloved Rock & Roll Jeopardy
Online... but I'm *trying* to get over it. ;-{)
