Folder/directory hierarchy for collection catalog?
Posted by Tim on November 29th, 2003

I'm going to catalog a ton of my music in .mp3 format. Had problems
getting the FreeDB to work in EAC so going to use CDex, Lame encoder,
"--alt-preset standard".

I'm trying to decide the best way to catalog them. Thought about
having all the tracks in one big root directory. I guess i was
thinking about possible sharing options later. Possible certain mp3
players may have some sort of maximum directory depth of 1 or 2?

easier to get it right now rather than have to reorganize all of it.

understood to have stated the following:

My only real experience with MP3 players is WinAmp, and on rare
occasions ReadOne and WiMP.

My recommendation, however, is that you organize your MP3s in folders
by artist, which are then broken down further by album.

The last song I started on my PC was: Rock The Nation-Montrose-Montrose
This is track 1 of 484 in the current playlist.
