- Fraunhofer Codec?
- Posted by Ian Smith on January 3rd, 2008
I have a new car and the CD player will play MP3 discs but only if they are
burnt with the Fraunhofer codec. Can't find anything via google that will
help me to convert my MP3 files - I think they are Lame codec - CDs or WMA
to Fraunhofer. How do I do this please?

The codec used to encode MP3s has nothing to do with burning and has
zero effect on their being
played.
If you don't believe me and just gotta have an FhG codec you have two
choices...
1. Buy/dl a program that uses it
2. D/L the radium hack one here...

If you decide to use the radium hacked one you'll need to find
instructions on installing and using it. One source for that info is
my dandies (see below) in "Other Programs, Codec Capers".

Erm? Obviously I have no idea, but I've burnt a couple of MP3 discs and
they won't play in my BMW - the manual says "the MP3 data should have been
generated using the Fraunhofer codec"

Long shot!
Are your mp3's burned with Lame, VBR, and the car player will not cope
with VBR?
Just a thought.

Try stereo, 128 kbps, CBR. That's about as generic as it gets.
