mp3 to audible (.aa)?
Posted by bob cannetti on September 6th, 2004

Does anyone know how to convert mp3 files to audible files (.aa)? I
have an audiobook that consists of 6 mp3 files and want to convert
them to .aa. I want to take advantage of the iPod's audiobook
features that only apply to .aa files. Thanks everyone. --bob

I'm also looking for something similar, which is ripping borrowed talking-
book CDs from the local library, and converting them into the Audible .aa
format.

Problem seem so be, is that the .aa file format is a closed proprietary
format which uses the ACELP.NET codec. No encoding tools appear to be
available, unless someone knows otherwise ?

I currently rip these to 16kbps mono AAC, but of course this doesn't take
advantage of the iPod's talking-book functionality.

Google for a program called "Goldwave". I've used it to convert .aa files to
mp3's, so I would think that it would go the other way also.
