UqSe.1544$XY7.1315@newssvr11.news.prodigy.co m...> I'm having problems
getting my Adaptec ASPI drivers (v4.71.2) configured
I don't have CDex, but I have seemingly disparate drivers on W2K , and
everything's working (the ASPI tab of the Nero Infotool has a green flash
along the bottom with a suitable message) ...
System ASPI:
WNASPI32.DLL 4.71 May 28,2003
ASPI32.SYS 4.71 May 28,2003
WINASPI.DLL 4.60 May 28,2003
WOWPOST.EXE 4.60 May 28,2003
NeroASPI:
WNASPI32.DLL 2.0.1.68 July 22,2004
More info about the Adaptec drivers and the latest download here

I used the download file aspi_471a2.exe, sounds like the same as yours.
If your Adaptec drivers are different from mine
0) Sign on as an administrator
1) Uninstall any previous ASPI drivers
2) To prevent obstruction of the installation by old files, boot into
Safe Mode and rename any remaining old versions of the above files in (where
%WinDir% normally = C:\WINNT) ...
%WinDir%\system (WINASPI.DLL & WOWPOST.EXE)
.... and ...
%WinDir%\system32 (WNASPI32.DLL)
.... and ...
%WinDir%\system32\drivers (ASPI32.SYS)
.... and ...
%WinDir%\ServicePackFiles\i386 (any/all).
.... If this procedure here doesn't work, be sure to restore original names
afterwards.
3) Uninstall any 'ghost' CD/DVD drives in Device manager. Check what
devices you can actually see in Device Manager and write down their names.
Then choose Hardware Wizard, Uninstall ... (IIRC, or it may be Remove ...),
again Uninstall ... (or Remove ... ), select Show Hidden Devices, remove any
other CD/DVD devices you see. If any of the CD/DVD devices which should be
there are actually duplicated, remove *all* the copies and reboot to
completely redetect them.
4) Then run the installation, should work.
If it didn't, do you have anything else installed that may be related to the
problem, possibilities might include InCD, DLA, etc? If so, you could try
uninstalling them, repeating the above, and then reinstalling them. I have
InCD, but can't now remember what order I installed everything.
