I am not 100% on this as I haven't used Windows 98 ina while now but I am
nearly sure that if you hold down the SHIFT key the close your cd drive then
the Operating System will not take any action so you won't have any porgrams
trying to run it for you.

If not SHIFT try CTRL, I can't remember, 25 years old and already I am
losing it !!!!
