I have read that the music publishers/distributors have finely tuned
the system so that the artists mostly make money on live performances / touring,
and relatively little on CD sales (even pre-p2p).

Given that, it seems the RIAA is blatantly self-serving and all this
blather about protecting the artist's income is hypocrisy.

While media distributors and publishers are
now irrelevant, thankfully, the economics of live performance would
seem to be unchanged.

It seems to me that p2p is only going to enhance the
publicity, and therefore, the touring income of artists.
