Rio 500 not recognized by W2K
Posted by Clown Fish on December 1st, 2003

I recently installed some new USB ports in my system. Every other USB
device works fine, but my Rio 500s (I have two) are no longer
recognized by the OS. I downloaded RioUSB.inf and RioUSB.sys from the
Internet, but Windows 2000 can't seem to read these files.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any solutions?

yea, on two systems (asus motherboards) I cannot even connect the usb cable
w/o resetting the computer. I though maybe my usb cable was shorted out,
but it ohm'ed out o.k. Cannot figure out why the rio wont connect while
"classic 6410" has no problem. On two other systems all I get is "unknown
device" attached to usb. One system (a7m266) runs XP pro, the other (CUV4X)
runs win2k. Neither works with rio and reset when I connect cable & rio
player. Problem was more likely to occur if I used the "front panel" usb.
When using the back panel atx connector, did not reset but got "unknown
device".

I took out the 128mb external memory and put it into a smart memory reader
(8 in one). Big mistake, even with metal foil write protect on smart
memory, the cheap 8-in-one still wiped out the mp3's. I dont think the
manufacturer bothered to include hardware to test for write protect. I
didnt even try to store anything on the memory, just attempted to read the
mp3's and that alone screwed up the memory stick so now rio is only good for
internal mp3's in that 64mb.

Let me know if you get it working. It used to work on a win98 system that I
dont have anymore.
