Subject: How to alter the order of play among songs in an MP3-player
Posted by URBAN on February 14th, 2008

Hello alt.music.mp3-Friend,
I just bought an MP3 player (Sony NWD-B103) about which I have just
one question, probably valid for all MP3 players.
Suppose I download 20 songs from my PC (Windows XP Media Center). I
can listen to them OK via the MP3 player but I am UNABLE to alter
the order of play.
Is there a way to impose one's own choice of order of play (during
downloading from the PC,or after downloading but using the PC,
or... )? E.g., suppose I want to listen to songs 3, 2, 5,11, 13,....
IN THAT ORDER (WITHOUT touching any buttons while I am "walking").
I shall be obliged if you would let me know.
Thanking you in advance,
Yours,
Urban

I don't know about your specific player, but most will play according to
the tag data. You can edit this with mp3tag. The player may offer
various selection options in addition to album such as artist etc. The
song order should be embedded track# or embedded song title if track#
doesn't resolve.

Rename the files (before transfering to portable device) with a
leading number. For example...

001 Song-artist
002 Another song-another artist
etc.

It may be that your player orders songs according to the ID3 tag (the
instructions should tell you). If that is the case, modify the tags
in the same way.
