- Thinking about buying a Mp3 portable

I want to buy one but want to read about them from the folks that use them,
is there a website where real people, not reviewers, get to vote/discuss
which they like?

When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter hammering away at
his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it.
Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was
not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.

If you can accept both reviewer and user opinions, CNET is one such place.

PCMag, ZDNet are others.
Once you narrow it down to a few choices, you can google for user-forums
specific to the manufacturer. Be advised that many of these may be heavily
biased depending on the devotion/hatred levels of the participants.

If you don't mind not being able to get music from the player to the PC,
and you don't mind a small conversion process, then I suggest you look
into Sony Hi-MD players as well. They use their own proprietary format
rather than MP3 but the software makes it quick and painless to make
copies of your MP3's in their format. The sound quality on Hi-MD players
is pretty good as is their battery life. And on top of that, they use
1GB floppy-like optical discs which you can buy at $10 apiece.

Check out alt.music.mp3.hardware - there's plenty of discussions there.
I'm using the new Rio Forge 256 mb. I've had some problems, but in
general am pleased with the device.
