What do you use to make CD booklets with (i.e., lyrics plus lyrics and photos)?

No. I must not have been clear at all. I'm talking about making my
own booklets. I make custom CDs, not just music, a lot of it data CDs
as well. When there's data that can be printed along with the data,
etc., CDs it would be nice to get a _working_ program to do this. So
far, all recommendations haven't worked (I've asked in two other NGs).
CD-ROM BOOKMAKER was the most promising of the lot and I kept it for
that purpose. However, when I went to use it, 3 trials show that it's
a faulty program as it put all sorts of spaces not in the original
text files and paginated incorrectly. Another freeware was for only
Windows 2000. I ended up trying it anyway. Crashes consistently on
Win98SE. crrlabel, another recommendation in another ng, is a joke.
It doesn't work worth beans. That's how it stands now. Now, I know I
can't be the only one creating custom CD booklets to put with my own
CDs ...

i.e., a CD I bought with French-Canadian songs is current project. I
stumbled upon a website that had all the lyrics in French to the CD
(this did not come in the original CD, btw). I snagged the lyrics and
made a text file for each song. Goal would be to make a lyrics
booklet and would probably then go on the net to grab some pictures.

No, not looking for a publishing or word processing application at
all. And not looking to rip off anything.

Next time, I'll remember to add "OT" to the subject line.

Thank you! Constructive help, that's always very, very appreciated.

Just out of curiousity, what is the template called (or how do you
bring it up in the program)?

Thanks once again!

Yeah, there are sooooo many faulty programs floating around.

Good to know. Guess I'll have to stop using it.

Oh, sorry. My bad. Jumping to conclusions and landing in the muck
again.

Well sure you are. What would you call it? MS Office has a program that
does what you are after (oddly enough, it is called "Publisher"). All
the other programs that I know of do that are word processors or
publisher programs, and they usually aren't cheap (by the way). It
certainly isn't a feature of any mp3 program I've run across.

You don't have to do that if you post in the correct group, you know.
Actually, you really don't have to do it here, although it is always a
good idea in any group. Nobody here gets all worked up about off topic
posts unless they are spamming or intentionally derogatory toward on-
subject posts and posters. My crack about off topic was generated by my
misunderstanding of your intent for which I again apologize.

I can't help you with your search, but good luck with it.

Thanks, CQ. Always appreciate the effort, though. Somewhere there's
a CD labelling program that does this, I just have to connect with the
person who knows about it. CD-ROM BOOKMAKER shows that someone
thought exactly of this task, they just didn't test the product. I've
tried using it off and on over the last 2 years that I've had it, but
it's never worked. And now that I need it more than ever, finding it
tough. Currently using my CD labelling program with a generic
setting. Not fun at all and very time-consuming.

Take care. D

Once you complete your project, you print it to the clickbook driver and
choose the "cd booklet" layout.

Ah, a PDF-like project. This sounds extremely promising.

Have you every made anything that doesn't print right, though? This
sounds perfect as long as it more-or-less keeps everything intact.

Thanks! Really appreciate this.

The only problem I've ever encountered was with a printer driver for the
HPDJ 970. Clickbook would only print every other page in some layouts.
Solved by installing different driver.

ClickBook does this perfectly, too!

It works like a charm! It took me several tries to get the right type
of layout but I found that was because a very formatted source
document turns out to be best and not just one continous text
document. Best printed results was after reformatting simple text
doct in Word when I used bold, underlined text, etc. So now, a
wordprocessor or publishing program _is_ the best. Since ClickBook
takes care of manipulating the entire finished document down to CD
booklet format and breaking it all up to print so pagination correct
then it is easy to produce initial text in any program like
WordPerfect or MS Publisher or Word, etc!

All pagination perfect and the size perfect. I now have a lyrics
booklet for my CD!

Only other difficulty that I must take care of is to get a
standard-sized stapler <vbg>! I have one of the smaller 5" ones that
forced me to fold part of the cut, printed booklet in half to be able
to position correctly to staple along the fold!

Thanks very much for this! Awesome print utility that comes just in
time as I will be able to finally make multi-page inserts for custom
CDs I make as gifts at Christmas! Was not able to do other than a
single-sheet insert up till now.

Bluesquirrel sells a couple of booklet staplers. Kind of pricey. You can
probably get a better price from Staples or Office Depot.

Glad this is working for you.
