I used to use Napster but it's not free any more. What sites would you
recommend that are free that are like Napster used to be?

While you were napping time moved on. Nothing is like it used to be.
If you're risk adverse get Grabit or Newsbin pro and maybe a premium news
server, and get your MP3s from binary usenet groups. If you're not risk
adverse and don't mind joining the 18,000 people who have had RIAA lawsuits
file against them, then just about any p2p app' will work. Shareaza, eMule
and Limewire are some of the better ones from the current crop. There are
others. www.slyck.com for more info.

Just about all of the current p2p app's force uploading to insure that
there's something to download. This is where the RIAA comes in. www.eff.org
for more info.

Limewire and KazaaLite. Unfortunately neither of these has a great chat
system like Napster used to have.

Cool, someone is giving Giganews a run for their money. They have the
same price for an unlimited account and claim 70 days retention. Of course,
retention is only part of the story. Completion and reliability are also
important factors. For me, a $15/month unlimited account with around 30 days
retention works fine. For many people a $7/month 1.5Gb/day Buzzard News
account would work. There are a lot of choices.
On usenet everything is free. I tried that one, and personally, for
now I'll stick with Newsbin pro.

Might want to try SoulSeek if you're looking for chat to go along with your
downloading.
