Why does it take so long to search local freedb?
Posted by mike on December 11th, 2004

Im using EAC on win98SE.
It takes over a minute to search the local FREEDB.
That's a significant portion of the time it takes to rip the thing.
My (mis)understanding is that you calculate a value from the CD
and look that up in the giant hash table that is the freedb.
Should have to open and search one file per genre directory???
Why does this take so long?

I'd really like to have one copy of the FREEDB and search it over the
network. That's unusably slow with the current situation.

Would an alternative ripper solve this?
Or am I just doing something stupid in the EAC configuration.
Thanks, mike
