directsound, unless your soundcard doesn't support it. ironically most
cheap soundcards DO support it. i have a professional $500 soundcard which
only supports wave and ASIO.
one advantage of directsound over wave is it supports software mixing, so
you can still hear your system beep at you while playing mp3's.
