People who illegally download music should be banned from the internet
under new British government proposals.

Ministers want broadband companies to take action against the 6
million internet users in Britain who are suspected of accessing
pirated material from the web.

America and France have already taken action on internet piracy,
putting pressure on the UK

Under the "three strikes" plans, those breaking the law will receive a
warning email for the first offence and a temporary suspension from
going online for the second.

If they go on to commit a third crime they will have their web
contract terminated and will no longer be able to access the internet.

Every broadband company will be expected to enforce these rules and
firms who fail to adhere to the guidelines could be prosecuted.

However, the proposals were last night criticised as unworkable.
