- 32Bit or a 64Bit?
- Posted by Walt on December 29th, 2005
Hi-
Where can I find information in my computer that shows it being a 32Bit or a
64Bit? The PC is using Windows XP.
Thanks for any help you can send.

Unless you purchased a 64bit computer and installed XP 64bit, you can safely
assume that it is 32bit running on your computer..

Almost certainly you have the 32-bit edition. Almost anybody who has to ask
the question is running the 32-bit version. The 64-bit version requires
special hardware.
But if you want to check to be sure, enter WINVER at the Start | Run line.

You need to know what the processor is : Right click My Computer and
click on properties. Then look to see what processor you have. Check
manufacturer of processors web site. Search for your processor and you
should have your answer

you could obviously have a 64 bit processor and not be running a 64 bit OS.

Read what I said again, and then work out that unless one has a 64bit
computer, XP 64 bit will not run on it anyway..
This is not rocket science..

Done that. Where does it say 32 bit?
It says version 5.1!

The 64-bit edition explicitly says "Windows XP Professional x64 Edition."

You're welcome. Also, I forgot to mention that WinXPx64 is version
5.2, as opposed to all of the 32-bit versions being 5.1.

It doesn't. But the 64-bit version does say 64-bit.
Sorry, I should have made that clearer.

Well what can you do when Ken decides, as he has just done in
another thread, to stick with Syrup and Figs ( aka msconfig ) to
avoid autoruns ( from Sysinternals )?
