- Add or Remove Programs and Win Components

I apologize I did not make my question more clear. I have about 20 utilities,
& other various programs installed by downloading. (Why isn't it a good idea
to download to a folder on desktop, btw?) I am surprised there is no
consistancy in listing all programs in this grouping found in the Control
Panel, making it simple to uninstall completely--yes, even Windows Explorer
as I needed to do 2 days ago--and not leave loose threads and .dlls and
registry flotsom & what not (like finding a whole program one thought deleted
turn up in an unexpected folder) I know one can go to the search, but that is
not very efficient as many entries, say for Diskstate is called by default
ds_300e, making it difficult to find using the search function. After all, it
is not called Add and Remove Some Programs and Some Windows Components With
No Apparent Reason Many Are Not. It surprises me, but I guess from your
answers-- & I thank you each for your deep knowledge & generosity--there is
no way I can place all downloaded programs that Win XP lets slip by without
putting them in a consistantly logical and orderly place. Thanks --mo

The only question I see is this:
"Why isn't it a good idea to download to a folder on desktop, btw?"
Because it clutters the desktop.
As for the rest, Add or Remove Programs only knows what the program tells
it, especially if you don't use Add or Remove Programs to install it.
