- Booting from Windows XP Installation Disc
- Posted by Tim Sutor on May 10th, 2008
I believe that my Windows XP installation needs repairing using the recovery
console.
Can anyone suggest a reason and solution as to why my desktop refuses to
boot from the Windows XP installation disc. I have altered the BIOS setting
a number of times to show the dvd drive as the first priority setting and
although when Windows is loading it appears to recognise that this priority
has been set and the words "press any key to boot from CD-Rom" appear during
the early stages of start-up, despite this it still, either after I have
pressed another key or simply done nothing, proceeds to load the XP
operating system.

If you press a key and it does not boot from CD after that (and you get that
message everytime) - then my bet is that your DVD drive or the CD itself is
damaged.

How To Ask Questions The Smart Way

I agree with Shenan. But first, try tapping a key, say Return, a few
times instead of just one keypress. Sometimes it takes the system a
moment more to get ready to accept a keypress. Only happened to me
once, but ... it happened.
