- Caps Lock and Num Lock
- Posted by jed.locke@bankarea.com on October 17th, 2005
I rarely use the Caps Lock and Numlock keys but do press them accidentally
all too often. I am looking for a utility to prevent this - ideally it would
make it difficult to activate accidentally, perhaps by requiring the key be
held down for half a sec before registering. Are there any such? Thanks

Toggle Keys in XP's Accessibility Options will make a sound when various
LOCK keys are pressed. Doesn't prevent the keys from being active as you
had hoped but at least it alerts you that they are active. Knowing that,
you can de-activate them before they cause too much trouble.

Personally, I *never* use those keys (or the insert key) and like
you, sometimes hit them accidentally So I have all three
permanently disabled using SharpKeys at
http://www.randyrants.com/sharpkeys/
There are other similar programs, including some that require the
keys to be held down for a a while before working, but I can't
recall other names. If you don't like SharpKeys, a google search
will find other alternatives fo you.
