- help!

i was downloading some music yesterday and i think i may have
downloaded something unwanted with it..yesterday it was fine but today
when i have been on the internet..particularly on google..but just
generally when i have been surfing, i keep getting these random
websites popping up without me even clicking on a website's name e.g.
film websites, social websites, mobile phone websites etc.. and it's
really annoying..i know they are not the usual pop-ups and when i was
looking at a few privacy settings on my internet..they seem to be
unwanted cookies..i downloaded spyware blaster and thankfully they are
not coming up that much anymore..but also i can't access facebook and
also when i type something into google..the results seem to take ages
to come..when usually i get them within seconds..i haven't actually
been able to use google at all today..however when i switched accounts
and used google from my brother's account it works fine..but he is
also still getting these weird websites popping up too..also i have IE
7 and i opened a tab and my computer went mental and kept creating tab
after tab after tab..all by itself..i couldnt control it and had to
shut my computer and restart..but that's only happened once so
far..can anyone shed some light on this and a way to solve the problem
and get rid of whatever's infecting my computer once and for all?
thanks

So have you run scans with your anti-virus and antispyware programs to find
out what nasties you've downloaded along with your music. ?

Run decent spyware cleaners and antivirus to see if you can get this off
your system.

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
