how do I put background picture in my folders I´ve got some on a couple of
old folders, but I cant remember if they are left over from when I had wins
98, or if I´ve just forgot how to do it in XP

Do you mean to show the folder in a Windows explorer with the picture as it's
icon using View, Thumbnails ? If that's the case then Right-click on folder,
Properties, Customize, Choose picture.
If you mean making a picture as the background of the folder when it was
open, like the background picture of the Desktop, then I don't know. Hope
other XP gurus can help.
