Is there a way to see which processes are using which open files in
WinXP?

Thanks!

To find out more about processes and files (Svchost.exe is a common one)
entries try Process Explorer:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...sExplorer.mspx

Once you have Process Explorer installed and running:
In the taskbar select View and check 'Show Process Tree' and 'Show Lower
Pane' options.
(This will provide some of the detailed info you may need)
Expand the Process tree until you are able to see all the sub process
entries under 'System', and 'Explorer'
As an example, 'Services.exe' which has many entries some of which need to
be expanded.
Next move the mouse cursor over the Svchost.exe or other process that you
are interested in.
(You should now see a pop up with a list of services or files associated
with that entry)
Next double click on the Svchost.exe process or other process that you are
interested in.
The 'Properties' Window should now be displayed with numerous tabs
available.

Philip

You may get a surfeit of information: Process Monitor (not the same as
Process Explorer)

Hope this helps.
