You'll need to set your router to forward TCP port 3389 to the destination machine's IP address. And you'll need to open port 3389 in your firewall.

My home PC runs Windows XP Pro. It is connected to the Internet
through a Linksys router and has Norton Internet Security firewall.

Occasionally I need to get a file off of it when I'm traveling. Is
there a guide out there that shows me how to set this up without
opening too many security holes?

Thank you
Brian

Although it is a good idea to change the port.
