- Keyboard Language Settings
- Posted by OS on December 29th, 2005
Hi,
Basically I used to have an American Keyboard from when I brought my
computer but have now upgraded to a UK one .. how do I go about changing the
settings to reflect the this... for example SHIFT 2 used to be @ but now
should be ".
I have tried
control / keyboard
and
control / regional
but probably missed it.

Hi,
You were on the right track. Control Panel/Regional and Language
options/Languages tab. Click details and change the primary keyboard input
here.

Gust a note on a related subject. It has been observed by this IT Site
Services tech, that while using a different keyboard from the one used
when the OS was installed, and particularly when switching languages
as in the case of DND users switching from English US to French CDN
(K2) problems have arisen with passwords. Users tend to remember their
password as keystroke combinations and mot actual letter/symbol
combinations which could lead to passwords not appearing to work in
some scenarios. The most common case was the occasion when one user
used a K2 keyboard in English most of the month, but for making
monthly reports in French, used to switch to French K2 input. If the
system when into Screen Saver, it could not be unlocked by the user.
Turned out the user used a shift 6 in his password which is a ^ on
English K2 and something else on French K2 keyboards.
Just an anecdote of using MUI Win XP, not that anyone else cares.
