laptop battery

I have a laptop. I lost my power cable so i got a universal power supply for
the laptop. And when i plugged the power supply in the computer will no
longer start. I think it will not start because the battery is drained on the
laptop but i am not forsure if the computer is fryed becuase i think the
universal power cable did not work. Is there a way without buying a power
supply to see if is just the battery drained or the computer got fried. Then
one more thing if your hard drive is fried will it show up in the bios? Thanks

Zuse

Laptops will work on the AC supply only.. you may well have taken out the
laptop completely using a power supply not meant for use with computers..
best would be to take it to a service department for the brand..

No. Laptops will work without any battery at all, if the _proper_ AC
adapter is plugged in.

It may be that the universal power cable did work - but did not match the
laptop's requirements.

Yes, take it to a shop that services laptops and has the appropriate AC
adapter. All you need to do is plug it in.

One thing - a trick that sometimes helps to clear these problems is to
remove the battery, unplug the AC adapter, and press and hold the power
switch for 5 seconds or so.

Then plug the AC adapter back in, but be *sure* it is the correct adapter.

Thanks

Depends on the extent of the damage.
