Had to reinstall all programs. Now trying to open my XP backup files but
program was not installed with XP. How do I locate it in cabinet files in OS
Disk?
Thanks.

XP Home?
Backup is installed automatically on XP Professional, but not on XP Home. If
you have the complete XP Home CD, find backup on the CD, in
\ValueAdd\MSFT\NTBACKUP and install it yourself by doubleclicking the file
ntbackup.msi.
If you don't have an XP CD, you can download ntbackup.msi at
http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/ntbackup.msi

You're welcome, Sid. Glad to help.

Ken, I'm using XP Pro SP2. I had put the OS CD in the drive and then in a
command box typed SFC /SCANNOW and during the scan , while the ntbackup
process was running in the processes box, the program loaded and allowed me
to backup me primary drive (c
to (d
. I looked on the OS CD which is
supposed to be a stand alone copy that I purchased while building this
machine. OK, now I have a *.bkf file on D: drive in the sys_backup directory.
Not only will NTBACKUP not open for new backups but when I open explorer and
navigate to d:\sys_backup\*.bkf and double click the file it still will not
load the backup/restore program. I wonder why? Anything I can try?
The directory on the CD is as follows: cd name VRMPOEM_EN(H
in the directory VALUEADD\USFT\USMT\ there is not a ntbackup.* file located
here.
There are no .CAB files, only 3 .EXE - LOADSTATE.EXE, SCANSTATE.EXE,
SCANSTATE_A.EXE and all of the other files are .DLL , and .INF files.
Thanks for any help you can give me, Sid

Sorry, I don't know enough about ntbackup to comment (I use a third-party
backup program), but prhaps someone else here can help.
