- Logon & Logoff Screens
- Posted by Wayne on January 6th, 2006
Hello Everyone,
In Win 98SE I had modified four files,
1) Excelsior.bmp in C:\Windows was a bit-map of a Star Trek ship blueprint
on black I used as wall paper.
2) logo.sys in C:\ would create a "United Federation of Planets" logo at
boot-up.
3&4) logos.sys & logow.sys in C:\Windows was a United Federation of Planets
End of Transmission" at sign-off.
With Win XP I can still use the bit-map, but I cannot find where the 2,3
& 4 files are located, or where the logon and logoff information is located
on Win XP. Can someone tell me where they are, or do you think that I am out
of luck as to being able to use these files on my new Win XP system ?
Any advice, Please, will be Greatly Appreciated.
Thank You So Much,
Wayne

The Logo.sys files do not exist in XP. The bootup/shutdown screens are embedded in the operating system code. See www.belchfire.net for information on how to create your own custom boot, logon, etc. screens. Registration is required, but its free.

Thank You for your reply Doug.
I was afraid I wasn't going to be able to use the original files on my
Win XP. You have pointed me to a place where I can find how to recreate
them, though. It will take a little work on my part, but if I want the logon
& logoff I had, that's what it takes.
I did see images that seemed a lot more appealing than "United Federation of
Planets", though. :-)
Again, Thank You. You Are A Champ,
Wayne

You're welcome. I miss the ability to easily create and use the logo.sys and related files. Just for fun, I created one for Win9x systems a long time ago.

Yes. I used to use that.
Gave a computer with that on it to one of my kids (I forgot to take it off)
and the first time he tried to use it he had to call me up.
