- Long time for windows shutdown
- Posted by Pete on February 23rd, 2006
I'm running xpsp2. In the last week or two I have noticed that it takes
longer for windows to shut down after it gets to the "windows is shutting
down" part in the blue shutdown screen. It seems to hang there for 25-30
seconds. It didn't used to do that (at least not all the time).
Everything else seems to be okay. What do you think could be causing the
change, and is it anything to be concerned about. Thanks...Pete

Download the file titled "UPHClean-Setup.msi", then right-click
on the file and select Install.
What's User Profile Hive Cleanup Service (UPHClean)?

Do you have the ATI Catalyst Control Center installed? I don't know if it's
a common problem but I get delayed shutdowns whenever it's installed.
"Delayed" could be anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours! I've gone back to
installing the driver only and skipping their CC.

Thanks Carey...I installed it and it had no effect at all. I also read
about the hive clean up and I don't know anything about any roaming profiles
:-) . Do you have any other suggestions. If not I will have to live with
it. Something happened to cause the increase in shut down time, but dunno
what...Pete

Thanks, and hi again Sharon...I don't know anything about the ATI Catalyst
Control Center (I just googled it), and therefore have never installed it.
My shutdown has only been increased by 25-30 seconds like I said, but I
immediately noticed something was different. I can live with it if I have
to. Computers are very complex in nature, and it always intrigues me why
all of a sudden something has changed due to something unknown triggering it
:-) .
Also please see my comment back to Carey about his suggestion. If you have
any more ideas, please let me know. Thanks...Pete
