Hi all,

If a computer has a version of XP on it which fails windows validation then
is it possible to purchase a full version of XP and validate without having
to remove/re-install XP?

If this is possible then what is the process?

Yes, you need to perform a Repair Installation using the valid CD and valid
Key.
First verify your key is invalid:

Ok sounds good but on the page you linked to it says a repair will only work
with XP Pro? I have XP home!

Surely there must be a way to upgrade to a legitimate copy of XP home
without having to do a clean install?

Buy a legitimate copy and do a clean install. You will need to
backup data files first and locate all programme disks etc.

Does your computer have one or two hard disks?

That page is not written very clearly in your case.
Most people have a pirated Windows XP Pro Volume license and since there is
no downgrade path, their only option is Pro.
You can buy Windows XP Home and Perform a Repair Installation as stated on
that page.
