i have a desk top computor with a printer attached. this system is hooked to
the internet by linksys router and shaw cable modem( broadband). also have a
lap top that is wireless to router. everything is working . i have the hard
drives and the printer shared on both computors. however i can not sent or
see the desktop system or printer on the laptop, there for unable to print
/or access the other comptur from laptop. both systems are running xp
windows. help tried everything that i can think of.

Are you running the Windows firewall and is SP2 installed?

hi rick, where are you located. the firewall is a issue, and yes to sp2

Hi Wade,
Champlain NY.
As to the firewall, in SP2 it should not be a problem, but you may need to
check the advanved section to see if file and printer sharing has been made
an exception for (right click the connection, click properties, go to the
advanced tab).
Also, make sure both machines have the same workgroup name (system
properties).
