I have one computer/user at an account that has an issue with MyComputer
opening VERY slow. It is as though it is looking for something on the
network and having no luck finding it. However, there are no apparent
mapped drives that can not be resolved or other such things. The system is
otherwise clean and has been checked for all manner of malware.

Where in the registry or in the user profile would I look to make sure there
are no "network places" it is trying to resolve and can't?

Restart the machine with safemode and delete all temp files and temporory
internet files also
try to remove the freeware scanner ,
give chkdsk /r

then also if you feel same in msconfig you can remove the startup
applcation and services

Have tried all that. When I say opening My Computer I mean Start, My
Computer, or opening Windows Explorer; not the actual computer. As I said,
it seems as though it is trying to resolve something but can't.

I'm not sure I can solve your problem, but I have a suggestion on how to
narrow it down. Try opening a command window and typing the following
command:

explorer /root,c:\

That will open an Explorer window with C:\ as the root of the tree. If it
opens just as slowly, then it's something to do with Explorer itself. If it
opens quickly, then you're right that it's probably a network resource, or
maybe something else that normally shows up in the standard Explorer window.
