Search companion

Somehow my search companion has reverted to the old style (although some
would say this is a good thing). However I liked the XP style. The probem is
that there is no preference options to turn things back on (animation etc).
How do I restore my search companion to the XP style? There are a million
entries of how to turn off animation etc, using the preference option, but
the "standard" version is not showing the preference option

Open Search and click Change preferences at the bottom. Then click With
animation at the top.

There is no preference option, that is the problem. I have tried re
installing the inf srchasst etc, still does not change the search back to XP
style.

Did you reboot?

For both of these, yes means use the search assistant and no means use
classic search. Make sure that both are set to yes.

Open the Registry Editor...
Start | Run | Type: regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to the appropriate key | If not set to yes, double click on
Use Search Asst | Type in yes in the Value data box | Click OK

For Windows Explorer.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\
Explorer\Cabinet State
Value Name: Use Search Asst
Value Type: REG_SZ
Value Type: yes

For Internet Explorer.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Value Name: Use Search Asst
Value Type: REG_SZ
Value Type: yes

If you change anything, reboot.
