- TrueType or OpenType font in Font folder?
- Posted by Alcide on November 3rd, 2005
Hello All,
I am looking into purchasing OpenType fonts from a third-party vendor. I
need them to be compliant with our printing bureau. I looked into my fonts
folder under Windows and the fonts that I need are already listed and have
the "O" icon next to them, which seems to indicate OpenType. When I
right-click on properties, however, it shows that they are TrueType fonts and
the file extension is .ttf.
I am rather confused. Are the TrueType or OpenType? From what I understand
from my readings in this the two are not the same.
Hope I provided enough info. Can anyone clarify this for me?
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Open Type is an extension of True Type. Some True Type fonts contain data
for use as True Type only or True Type and Open Type:

Just to clarify some TT fonts contain data for use as True Type only.
Others contain data for both True Type and Open Type use.
