- Where are Microsoft Update files saved?
- Posted by Carmen Gauvin-O'Donnell on January 3rd, 2006
Hi folks!
Does anyone know what directory my windows updates files are saved to until
I click on the "update my computer" icon?
Thanks!

Hi,
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download usually, but sometimes also in a
C:\WUTemp folder.

Thanks Rick.
- Microsoft keeps trying to download and install a patch for NET 1.1 which i
don't have. I've even installed NET 2.0 to try and see if that stopped it.
What do i do to get rid of the download? Can I just delete it or is that
asking for trouble?
- Also, do you know of any software out there that could let me test my USB
ports somehow? My computer has been freezing like nobody's business for the
past couple of days and I'm starting to wonder if there's something wrong
with the USB ports as sometimes it'll involve my mouse at boot-up.
Thanks again to everyone!

Hi,
1 - Just delete it. If given the option at the update site, mark it to
ignore.

Thanks Rick... I deleted the files in the download folder and that seems to
have stopped another disturbing thing that had been happening - me watching
my Zone Alarm firewall show red bars (out) more than green bars (in) when I
wasn't doing anything... and having tried anti-virus scans, spybot, ad aware
and MS Antispyware to no avail... a little stressful, even if I am protected
to death...
There must have been some cocked-up files in there somehow, because now it's
stopped... hurray for me!
I'm going to go read the troubleshooting link you gave me...
Thanks again for your help!
