Writing backup data to CD-RW
Posted by BC Mesa on March 3rd, 2006

How do I "format" a CD-RW to accept system backup instead of music or
pictures? To use floppies would be impractical, I think.

Use Nero or Roxio to format, create a packet writing disk. Which will
then work as a second harddrive by creating data disks.

Thanks. I'm not familiar with these, but probably have them somewhere on my
computer and will give it a try.

These are not Microsoft system programs. They are "sold" by 3rd party
companies (they like profit also). I should think you would KNOW if you
bought them and installed them on your computer.

They won't be "somewhere on your computer" - you have to purchase them.

"Nero" and "Roxio" are software companies that make CD/DVD burining software
(i.e. packet-writing, which the native CD-burning feature in XP doesn't
support, although it is "based on" the Roxio product.
