4x burn is less choppy than a 1x burn !!!
Posted by David P on April 2nd, 2004

Hi, I know the issue of choppy playback on a set top player has been
discussed to death. The two biggest solutins being: 1) change your
media and 2) burn slower.

I had a 4x burn of a movie that was a little choppy in a few spots
when I played it on my set top DVD player. So, I made a new burn of
the .iso image at 1x to see if it would be better. It was a lot
worse! Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I am using LEADDATA 4X certified media in a Pioineer 107 burner. Same
media, burner, and software on both discs...

1. You have crap media
2. Making a slower burn of something thats already been done at 4x speed
isnt ever going to make it better

Try buying a few ridata made by ritek.
Yuo will see the difference and been able to burn at 4x and play back
without any of the frustrations of playback freezes or block video
towards the end of the media.

ridata g04 made by ritek.
If you own a cd printer get the ridata gloss ink jet printable media.
Works a treat and does a really cool print on top. Far better than
ritek matt tops.

I am going to experiment with different media, specifically the Ritek
G04 that was suggested. I think you misunderstood me regarding the
second point... I created a 4Gig ISO image file (on my hard drive) of
a movie DVD, and I burned that ISO image once at 4x and once at 1x
onto the same type of media.

Was the image made from an original or a copy??? if it was from a copy then
what speed was the copy originally made at???
If once you made then 2 seperate burns, both playedback poorly, then thats
either a config problem or crap media.

The iso image was made from an original hollywood DVD movie. Same
config on both burns, so I am guessing it must me the media. I have a
25 pack of Ritek Ridata G04's on the way from
http://store.yahoo.com/cdrdvdrmedia. I'll try again with that
media...

thanks for all the replies.

The Ridata G04 was much better. I watched a good deal of the movie
and only noticed one small skip. Overall I was impressed and I must
say that the outcome was very good. Not perfect though, 16x fast
forward does not work well (lots of disc spin, no video movement) and
chapter skip forward is a little problematic at the later chapters
also. But maybe it's just my Daewoo DVD player. I'm happy with the
Ridata G04 and I'll probably use it for the rest of my burns.
