- Best and most compatible DVD ROM????
- Posted by Newf !!! on July 11th, 2004
Just got a nec 2510. Great burner, poor reader.
I have an older pioneer 105S slot load reader. Love it. Works with
everything I've thrown at it.
But, it's white ( i need black) , and it's slot load, and I just
bought Antec p160 case, and the optical drive covers obviously don't
work well with slot load cd rom drives. I knew this before I bought
the case of course. Found a work around, but it's still a bit of a
pita
So, good dvd rom drives?
Need to read burnt dvd-r, and dvd-rw, cdr/cdrw. read xbox games The
pioneer is getting retired to my older machine, but it's sticking
around.

Might sound daft , but the pioneer dvd-writers are great readers
more than a dvd-rom but not mega money

I got a NEC 2510 a week or so ago and it reads everything fine unless you
mean ripping speed. That can also be taken care of by hacked firmware. But
why bother when a LiteOn JLMS XJ HD 166S only costs $27.99 at newegg and
it's a great reader for ripping and everything else. I only use my 2 DVD
burners and CD/RW burners for burning.
