Burned DVD problem with playback
Posted by ricsic@gmail.com on January 21st, 2006

Hi, I am ripping DVD images with DVD Shrink and burning with Nero 6
onto TDK 8x +R and -R media with an LG GSA-4120B burner. The problem I
have is that cometimes the picture freezes for a few seconds fairly
regularly on playback on my standalone DVD player. This can happen
between 0 and 20 times. Is this a media problem or a burner problem??

Thanks

tdk 8x is absolute shit, fails for a lot of people, always try different
media before blaming the burner.

Almost certainly a media problem, try burning at a slower speed, or
preferably use better blanks. TY are wll respected.

I had the same issue, with the same media. (Also, in general, I've had
better luck with DVD-R on home players vs. DVD+R.) The TDKs seem to
read fine with my computer's DVD drive, but are *totally* useless in
the three different home DVD players I've tried.

I got a 100-pack of Taiyo-Yuden DVD-R blanks a couple of weeks ago, and
it made a world of difference. You'll often find good prices and
service from both meritline.com (where I got this batch) and
supermediastore.com. Meritline is currently selling a 100-pack of the
silver-lacquer for $33, and the inkjet-printable for $43 (but with free
ground shipping on the latter, so it's about the same overall price).

Hope that helps!

I use PRINCO X4 DVD-R discs and I have never had a problem. When I used
DVD-R X8 discs I always seem to have problems with slight freezing and
discs not being able to be played on all DVD players. Isn't DVD Shrink
just the best ripping program around, simple to use. Good Luck

As the previous poster indicated, burn at a slower speed. I used to
set my Liteon burner to MAX and I would have freeze ups on the DVDRs I
made. After setting the burner to 4X, no problems. The extra three or
four minutes it takes to burn using the slower speed is worth the wait
in the long run.
