I recorded something off tv with a dvd recorder. it was put onto a DVDram
disc in LP mode. I extracted the program with VideoRedo and took out the
commericals. I exported it as a MPG file. I want to put the final product
on a dvdr disc. I tried using TMPEG dvd author 1.5 but it will not accept
the MPG file for some reason (maybe because it was LP mode?). anyway, what
other free programs can burn the MPG to dvdr? thanks for any help.

How is the audio and video described in VideoReDo
under the "Tools" tab, and the "Show Video Program
Info" selection? How does what is shown there compare
to what is listed in TDA's "Help" under the "TMPGEnc
DVD Author specification" selection? Which parameter(s)
differ?

If the Aspect Ratio, Bit Rate, or Max GOP Length are
what TDA is seeing in the MPEG header, and rejecting the
..mpg file for, they can be easily changed by using the "Options"
of the "Save As" process of VideoReDo.

Learning what is going on, and understanding the effects
of the settings you need, to use your source material and to
produce the output you wish; is much to be preferred over
finding some software that will make those decisions for you.
There are a number of posters here that will help you, over
the learning curve.

the UK (e.g. More 4, ITV3, ITV4), they use a reduced number of samples
per line, which results in 544 x 576 instead of 720 x 576. VideoReDo
can handle that, but TDA rejects it as out of standard for a DVD.

The only way round it that I have found (so far) is to play back the
recording as video and re-capture it using a PC capture card.

Anyway, the problem is explained. Either go back to VideoRedo and set
the output to DVD compatible values, or import the original to TDA (I
think also 1.5 can import DVD-RAM). A drawback with cutting in TDA is
that the cuts are not seamless, so a DVD-player might freeze for short
moment at those places.

TDA Pro or TMPGEnc MPEG Editor use "smart recode" and can make
seamless cuts with frame resolution and still only recode the few
frames that needs it.
(I use TDA to import from DVD+RW to .mpg file first anyway because the
other two programs gives me sound drop outs). Then I cut and process
sound as needed in the other two applications.

I'll give that a try when BT finally manage to kick the DHCP server at
the Cricklewood exchange so that my ADSL connection works again.

If that is an application which can convert non-DVD compliant
transport streams to DVD compliant programme streams, it will be a
Godsend.

Depending on what you mean by, "non-DVD compliant"
you could try VituralLan Client (VLC); I have used that to
change the encapsulation and transcode if necessary.

Just use the "Stream output" settings.

any discs with TDA, edit with VideoRedo and burn with TDA. It was great and

That is exactly how it should still be working, there
must be some change to your system that has caused
this change in the response of these programs.

TDA and VideoReDo aren't normally effected by codec
changes, and I get the impression that the change may be
in the source video or DVD disk format. Perhaps your
problem could be isolated by examining any such changes.

Reversing the changes temporarily could pin point the
change that is causing the problem. You might try using the
Restore function of XP, if that is your OS. Then there may be
a different way to make the change/upgrade without effecting
your video processing.
