- Copying from PVR (hard disc recorder) to a DVD recorder
- Posted by david.keen1@virgin.net on February 21st, 2008
I have a hard disc recorder on which I have some programs stored that
I would like to archive to DVDs, and so am considering the purchase of
a DVD recorder.
Can some one tell me, please, is this transfer as simple as I think it
should be? That is if I connect the HDR to the DVDR via a scart
cable, play on the HDR and record on the DVDR is that all there is to
it?
If anyone does this regularly I should like to hear from you and of
your experiences.
Thank you
David

In the USA, we use different cables, like S-Video. That doesn't
change things much.
If the recordings are not copy-protected, it should be this simple.
I've done it with a Tivo to a DVD recorder lots of times. Tivo has
a "Save to VCR" function which makes it look fancier than it is.
The function (a) reminds you to start recording on the VCR/DVD
recorder, (b) provides a 10-second title screen, and (c) tries not
to let you interrupt the program accidentally. But essentially it
is PLAY on one device, RECORD on the other.

Yeah, I agree that it should be simple. We have three recorders set up
round the house, all record from external devices such as SKY+ and
cable with no problems
through scart.
For the original poster, check which scart outputs/inputs use RGB on
each peace of equipment and use those for the connection, that way you
will get the best picture possible.

There is another advantage to using the "Save to VCR" function.
It supresses all automatic messages like the warning that it is going
to change channels.

Can you connect the HDR to a computer at all?
That is the way I would want to proceed.
