Sony does not do dvd-ram. Their recorders only do dvd-r/+r and dvd+rw.
Get a panasonic. All you need is dvd-r and dvd-ram. Forget the other
useless formats.
dvd-rw and dvd+rw are hopeless shit. They last for a few re writes and
that is the end of them where -ram goes on and on.

I didn't think Sony supported dvd-ram?

If your budget can stretch to it, I would recommend one with a hard drive. I
have been using a Panasonic E-100 for nearly a year, and have been very
pleased with it.

Sony supports DVD+ and DVD-, but not DVD DL and RAM
No standalone recorders support DVD+ DL, yet.
No standalone recorders on the market can support all the required formats!

On their pc burners they do but only as read support.
Their dvd players or dvd recorders sure don't.

JVC MH30 will do -R, -RW and Ram
Sony Models do + format as well - but I believe the + format features are
not present so they work like - format.
Panasonic E85 does -R and Ram
Pioneer 520 does -R and -RW
Philips do +R and +RW
There are none that do DL yet as far as I know.

The DVD-RAM was designed to look and act like hard drives and can
be used for high-speed write and restore and is designed for

The -R and -RW were there first.
The +R and +RW were adopted because the media is easier to manufacture
than the -R and -RW. As more and more + machines are in use and
the quantity of media goes up you should see a reveral of pricing.
The first + disks cost more than the - disks. Competition will
keep them at parity for awhile but as volumes change the + should
become cheaper than the -. + came later.
When the first - came out there was only that one standard.
