- DVD-Rom Drive that will read DVD+R?
- Posted by freddyboy on November 15th, 2003
Hi
Does anyone know of any particular make of DVD-Rom drive that can read
DVD+R? My DVD-Rom drive only occasionally recognises DVD+R discs and i am
having difficulty in copying my home-made DVD discs on to my LG-GSA4040
super-multidrive.
Thanks
Fred
ps is there a way round this? Not sure if you can copy files read by a
dvd-drive to your hard-drive-is that possible?

This is always going to be a problem with dvd-rom drives an ddvd+r
medi afor some time to come. There are some liteon's that will read
dvd+r media.
The lg drives don't have good write ups for dvd+r media but work fine
for dvd-r/-rw and -ram media. Maybe use dvd-r media which is I think
the better option.
Liteon have some models that will read dvd+r media.

I'm using a LiteOn LTD-163. Works great, and is a very fast ripper.
Use DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink to rip to disk -- both freeware.

I have a LiteOn 165 dvd-rom drive which reads dvd+r OK. Good dvd and cd
ripper. Pretty cheap at around £20.

Hi Skid
I tried using both these programs tonight after I spoke to someone in my
local PC shop. However, DVD Shrink crashed as soon as it tried to access my
DVD disc info and DVD Decyptor failed at 99% !! Any ideas?
Thanks
Fred

Check cables and jumpers. Make sure DMA is enabled. Check to make sure you
have plenty of free hard drive space, and defrag it. Also don't forget to
clean the disc you're ripping -- a dab of peanut butter or a scratch can
cause that.

Hi Skid
Problem solved! I did some more research after the advice given here and
discovered a program called CloneDVD. It ripped the DVD disc perfectly and
copied it to a blank DVD+R successfully!
Thanks to everyone for their help.
