DVD RW and CD RW dives - which should be master?
Posted by Ian Roberts on July 16th, 2003

Hi

I'm a DVD burning newbie. Just got my first DVD burner today! Pioneer
A06 8^)

I'll fit it later today. Just wondered...

I already have a Plextor 161040A CDRW as Master on IDE2 and was
planning to connect the A06 to IDE2. Is there any preference as to
which should be master?

I have 2 HDD's on IDE1. (WD1200JB)

Would it be even better to get second IDE controller so that they can
all be used as single Master on each channel?

Thanks for any info.

Ian I^)

To be on the safe side I would set the plex(slower drive) as slave and put
the
ao6 as master. Assuming of course that the plex is dma 33 and the ao6 is
dma66.
In my case I use raid motherboards, JBOD for standalone masters for my two
hard drives, with a dvd-rom as standalone master on ide1 and Pioneer
105/master and teac 40x burner/slave on ide2. Having all three atapi drives
do what they do best.
Copying on the fly works best when the two drives don't share ide cable.
