- DVD to WAV/MP3 conversion
- Posted by georgiarose on December 21st, 2004
I know this has probably been asked dozens of times before but can anyone
suggest a simple little (preferably freeware) application for ripping audio
from DVD to WAV/MP3. Thanks in advance.

If you don't mind a bit of "programming" (ie setting up of a few options)
and the best mp3 quality this side of Venus, then I'd suggest getting Exact
Audio Copy (a CD ripper) and the Lame MP3 encoder. Both are free and just
need a bit of common sense to setup the relevant options and you can happily
rip and burn forever.
You can get the latest version of EAC at www.exactaudiocopy.com , but I will
have to hunt down the link to get the latest Lame encoder (it's harder to
find this than you'd think). Once setup, you will get as error-free of rips
as possible with the best mp3 encoding quality ever. As before, both are
free and I believe shits over stuff like MusicMatch etc (for quality, but
probably not for user-friendliness, at least when trying to install
everything first up, but then it's a one/two button press from then on).
Hope this helps.

The correct URL for Exact Audio Copy is http://www.exactaudiocopy.org
(not .com)

dvd2avi can do it, I've used it for audio extraction, you just need to mess
about with the settings to get a separate .wav extract and just delete the
extracted video.
Can't remember exactly how I did it but it's worth a look.

I think you might mean http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/index.html - the dot com
url is just a page of links...
I can't see anything on the Exact Audio Copy website saying that it rips
from DVDs (as per the subject of this thread).
Does it?

I've downloaded and installed EAC as well as the LAME encoder however I am
having trouble working out how to rip audio from DVD still. No worries for
CD, but how to do from DVD?

Ah shit, sorry about that, I didn't even notice the word DVD in your query
(well, I did actually, but I have been asking my own questions about DVD-R's
etc, so no doubt I started getting my wires crossed whilst doing
multi-tasking on the Internet
. Anyway, for CD ripping to MP3, my
suggestion has given me reliable results (especially when a CD is corrupt in
some way like prints/scratches).
I used to do DVD audio track ripping in the early days when AC3DEC was king,
but now things are a lot simpler although I hardly know which software
package is probably the best (and simplest) to use. I have found one that
might be useful, but it may not ... I'll try to find the ones I saw just
recently a bit later on ...

No worries mate. Another bloke further down the thread suggested DVD Audio
Extractor which is terrific. Thanks anyway.

Funny about that, I just came across this program myself. I haven't had a
chance to test it but it has good things said about it so far. Hope it
works for you.
