I have a couple of questions regarding my panasonic mx3660d DVD
player.
1. On the box and in the manuel it states that the DVD player just
plays DVD+RW. Is this possible? Why wouldn't iy play DVD+R as it
states in the formats at Walmart.com? Can A DVD player just play
DVD+RW and not DVD+R?
2. Why wouldn't my dvd player play DVD-Rs? Isn't this the most common
recorded format? DVDrhelp.com states my player plays DVD-Rs. Ugh. I
don't know what to believe without hunting someone down and getting
them to burn every single format to test.
3. Is it possible to upgrade a player to play more recorded formats?
Thanks in advance for your help. Sorry that these questions are a bit
"newbie" in nature.

Some players are just plain picky about what brand (or mfg) of blank media
it is being asked to read. I had a Panasonic DVD player that was stated to
read DVD-r's and I tried 3 brands with not one being read. Tried another
model of Panasonic with the same result. Went to JVC, all three are read
with no problem. In fact, Panasonic was by far the worst. The Panasonic
laser is either very picky or misrepresented. Don't know. More and more
players are becoming able to read + and - media but many still are one or
the other. Look at burners. Only now are +/-burners becoming standard fare
across the price spectrum. Regarding upgrades... There are some firmware
hacks out there that may do this but manufacturers can't support them as
there may be licensing rights for unclaimed burning formats that are not
being compensated for by the manufacturer.
